Launch of Asparagus Season at Harvest | 17th October, 2020

This week we are excited to offer our Harvest marketgoers crisp, fresh asparagus to add to their basket as we welcome the return Headlam Farm Tasmanian Fresh Asparagus.

Lucy and Philip from Headlam Farm Tasmanian Fresh Asparagus will be bringing a selection of green and purple asparagus direct from the renowned region of Pipers Brook. There is a difference in flavour between both varieties, with purple spears offering a nuttier, sweeter flavour compared to the grassy flavour of the green. When cooked, purple asparagus turns green, so to maintain the vibrant colour and add a touch of flair to your dish, serve it fresh or just slightly simmered.

Meander Pastured Free Range Eggs return this week with eggs from their happy chook farm at Mole Creek. Their eggs are ‘pastured free range’ meaning their hens are housed in mobile homes that are regularly moved around their 145 acre property onto fresh pasture for daytime foraging. From sun up to sun down the girls are free to roam wherever they choose, having unrestricted outdoor access to natural grass and native forest areas.

As we approach the opening of the borders to other low-risk states on October 26, we will be putting new protocols in place at the market and we will keep you updated with any changes. We are grateful to our Harvest Community for your support, however it is also really important to continue to remain vigilant with the market protocols. Please stay home if you are unwell and ensure your hands are sanitised upon entry by one of our wonderful volunteers.

We look forward to seeing at Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market this weekend to experience for yourself why so many choose to start their weekend at Harvest. Talk to the producers, take home a basket full of fresh produce and artisan treats, and go home knowing you’ve supported your local farmers.

See you soon!
