The days are still getting shorter, the mornings dark for longer and the air is chilly. What this means is that Winter has arrived bringing with it the wonderful seasonal produce from root vegetables, Brussels sprout, wasabi pickles and winter warming slow cook opportunities.
Harvest is also announcing the closure of their online stall. As the Covid-19 restrictions ease, the need for online access to Harvest producers has fallen substantially, however we are aware that their are some members of our community who might still be reluctant to attend the market. Please contact us should you need assistance in this regard.
At the market this week we have Oldway Farm, Hazelbrae, Real Beef, and Mount Gnomon with plenty of choices of special cuts for the casserole pot. At The Grain Family, there are options from ancient grains to lentils which make for delicious winter warming soups and stews.
Add heirloom and organic vegetables such as Jerusalem artichokes and a variety of potatoes from Seven Springs Farm, head to Thirlstane Gardens for your herbs and Felds Farm for some award winning veggies. Add more colour to your meals with Steve’s Vegies and Loas Farm, who are harvesting cauliflowers, carrots, leeks and lots of greens.
We have saved the best for last and are delighted to introduce you to a new member of the Harvest farmers’ market family, Tasmanian Wasabi Products. Mathew is making magic with the Wasabi rhizome and has created a dressing and a pickle. Head on down to the market on Saturday to get a jar which our market manager Caroline has tasted and declared that it is product she can now not live without!
The weather on Saturday is forecast to be partly cloud, with a slight chance of rain and a temperature range for 2 to 11 degrees.
