Plastic Free July at Harvest Market | 25th July 2020

Plastic Free Launceston will be at Harvest Launceston Community Farmers’ Market this week to educate us all about what goes where and how to avoid single use plastic.   For the past four years the market has been collaborating with Plastic Free Launceston and has learned so much about what goes where and how to reduce waste.

Beeswax wraps are a wonderful way to store food and reduce plastic waste. Wendy at West-Bee Honey has all the tricks for making your own beeswax wraps. As Covid-19 continues to takes its toll we need to be mindful of how personal protection gear is contributing to plastic waste and one way we can all help out is to use cloth masks. Visit Trish and her team to find out how to make your own bags and even face masks.

Tasmanian Natural Garlic & Tomatoes are taking a break and will have the last of the fresh garlic bulbs before they return with Spring green garlic starts in September. Annette advised that there is no need to buy imported flavourless, multi-treated garlic. Stock up with bags of seconds. Break them up, store them in the freezer and take them out as you need them. They keep remarkably well and retain full flavour, says Annette. TNGT will also have fresh truffles, smoked and black garlic and their usual pantry items.

The weather forecast is for a partly cloudy day with a temperature range from 2º to 13º. With a low UV, sun protection is not recommended.
