Grand Final Fever | 24th October, 2020

There will be a buzz in the air at Harvest Launceston Community Farmer’s Market this week as it marks the day of the 2020 AFL Grand Final! The mould will be broken, with the first ever night Grand Final kicking off at 7:30pm in Brisbane. “Kick yourself a goal” and get down to the market home ground early to grab some gourmet sausages, chutney and fresh bread for a tasty footy final treat. Top it off with a dash of Paul’s Original Hot Sauce and you will really know you are alive! Paul is a trained chef, using locally grown chillies to produce a range of chilli sauce varieties – original, BBQ, extra hot and devil hot flavours. We dare you to try them…they are sure to get you singing for the AFL showdown.

Who will be crowned 2020 AFL Grand Final victors? Will it be Geelong or Richmond? No matter who your team, what better way to say cheers to the winner than with a locally crafted tipple from one of our artisan brewers, cidermakers or distillers –  Seven Sheds, Brady’s Lookout Cider, Metcalf Distilleries or Wanderer’s Mead,  Mead is honey-based and the oldest of all alcoholic drinks. Stephen from Wanderer’s Mead makes dry and semi-dry meads and offers a selection of flavours using Tasmanian fruit, herbs and spices.

Newry Farm Asparagus and Headlam Farm Asparagus will be “kicking off” the Asparagus Season with the freshest, most delicious asparagus you’re likely to ever taste!  And you can’t go home without a yummy treat from Delicious Little Things.  Her famous sausage rolls are always a winner on Grand Final Day and for the sweet-toothed among us, her macarons are sure to hit the mark… or should we say “take a mark”?

Finally, we have some other National winners at the market – Joe and Antonia from Elgaar Farm were thrilled to take out the National Award for Best Product from the Dairy for their Organic Fresh Cream, which was described by judges as “A fresh organic pouring cream that shows the subtle notes of the multi-species herb pastures where the cows have been grazing.”

“There’s a really beautiful, clean flavour here, thanks to the grass-fed cattle that graze on pristine Tasmanian farmland.” – Matt Moran

Well done Joe, Antonia and the team Elgaar Farm!
